Beta Alpha Psi – Iota Eta Chapter connects accounting students with real-world experience through Meet the Firms, the Spring Banquet, and tutoring programs that strengthen academic success. Members develop professional skills, build lasting connections, and give back through community service and the VITA program. Joining BAP is a valuable step toward academic, professional, and personal growth at CSUSB.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS AND PLEDGE
Candidate
To become a candidate for Beta Alpha Psi membership, you must meet the following requirements:

Have a declared concentration in Accounting, Finance, or Information Management ​

​Have completed two (2) years of collegiate business and non-business courses and;
a. enrolled in at least one upper division accounting course chosen from: (ACCT 3150, 3470, 3720, 3730) or;
b. enrolled in at least one upper division finance course chosen from: (FIN 4300, 4320, 4330)

​Have achieved at least an overall GPA in upper level concentration courses of at least a 3.0 and;
a. Have attained at least an overall GPA of 3.0 or;
b. Have attained a least a 3.25 cumulative GPA of the most recent 30 semester units.

As a candidate, you are require to complete 4 hours of tutoring and 3 hours of community service

Candidates are required to participate in at least 75% attendance of the Beta Alpha Psi chapter events.

One full semester must be served as a candidate prior to becoming a member. This means a minimum of two (2) semesters must be served.
a. One (1) semester as a candidate and;
b. One (1) semester as a member

To become a member, you must be present at the initiation ceremony.

Provide a PDF copy of your current unofficial transcripts (to check your academic eligibility) along with the application and dues in person by the application deadline (cash, checks, or money order).
Member
To be eligible for membership in Beta Alpha Psi, you must meet the following requirements:

Completion of all candidate requirements and initiation as a member of Beta Alpha Psi.

As a member, you are require to complete 2 hours of tutoring and 3 hours of community service

Have attained at least an overall GPA in upper level concentration courses of at least a 3.0 and;
a. Have attained at least an overall GPA of 3.0 or;
b. Have attained a least a 3.25 cumulative GPA of the most recent 30 semester units.

Members are required to participate in at least 75% attendance of the Beta Alpha Psi chapter events.

Members must complete their required hours to remain in good standing with the chapter and the organization.

Returning members do not need to reapply. Provide a PDF of your current unofficial transcripts (to check your academic eligibility) and your dues (cash, check, or money order) in person by the renewal deadline

Can Online and Palm Desert Students Join Beta Alpha Psi?
Yes. Students enrolled in the College of Extended and Global Education (MSA Online and Accounting Certificate programs) and students at the Palm Desert Campus are eligible to join Beta Alpha Psi.

How do I attend meetings? Join meetings via Zoom and students who live nearby are encouraged to attend in in-person meetings and events on campus.

Participate in CalCPA or other networking events available near your location.

What about tutoring and Community Service hours? Hours will be discussed during meetings, with flexible options on how they can be completed remotely
What About Tutoring and Community Service Hours?
Tutoring:
Online and Palm Desert students may complete their tutoring hours remotely. More information and instructions will be provided during the general meetings.

Community Service:
Students enrolled in the MSA Online or Accounting Certificate Program through the College of Extended and Global Education, as well as Palm Desert students who cannot attend campus due to distance, may complete their community service independently.

A form will be sent out to indicate your planned activity and expected completion date. Once completed, please have the organization email proof of participation and hours completed to bapofficers@gmail.com.

Examples of Approved Community Service Activities:

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

Tutoring business school, community college, or high school students
(Note: Required tutoring hours for the semester cannot be double counted as service hours) -
Volunteering with nonprofits such as Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters, etc.

Activities That Do Not Qualify as Community Service:

Assisting friends or family members

Activities completed for course credit

Simply donating food or other items
